Frequently Asked Questions
Regarding Hypnosis and our Hypnotherapy Audio Programs
- What Is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a naturally occuring mental state or set of attitudes characterized most often by increased focus and concentration, heightened response to suggestion, with diminished peripheral perception. We often call it simply an advanced state of concentration through relaxation where the unconscious mind is open to receiving suggestions. The human mind enters this state naturally and continuously throughout every hour of every day. The role of our hypnotherapists and audio programs is to help guide you to this state naturally and intentionally, while encouraging creativity and healing. While in a hypnotic state, the human mind is primed to receive suggestions, and our therapies are very precisely engineered to deliver the most power and precisely worded suggestions at the exact moment that they will have the most dramatic impact.
- Can I Be Hypnotized?
Yes – if you want to be. The ability to be hypnotized is a natural one, and not dependent upon age, gender, education, intelligence or any other distinguishing factor. If you want to be hypnotized, are willing to let yourself explore the process, and allow yourself to focus to your capacity, than you can be hypnotized. The idea that some people are not hypnotizable is a complete myth.
If, however, you do not want to be hypnotized, there is no way that it can be forced upon you. Hypnosis is a cooperative process.
- What If I Don’t Believe In Hypnosis?
Belief is not necessary for an effective hypnotherapy, because it’s not a belief-based practice. In fact, we here at The Center for Neuro-Hypnotic Science encourage skeptical thought. Hypnosis is a physiological and psychological state and process that is induced and entered into by employing the solid sciences of biology, physiology and neuropsychological technique. This is science, not superstition. Therefore, belief is not necessary.
- What Does Hypnosis Feel Like? For most, hypnosis is a profound state of relaxation. Many subjects report feeling warm, blissful and slightly dreamy, though not asleep. You remain aware – sometimes hyperaware – of everything around you, but you feel very content, peaceful and comforted. I can feel like a slightly altered state. That said, feeling like you are in an altered state is not at all necessary for the hypnotic process to be effective. Though most people choose the relaxed state because it feels quite good, it’s absolutely not required. Change happens regardless of how you are consciously feeling.
- Will I Be Asleep? Can I Fall Asleep While Listening?
Though many hypnotists use the word “sleep” during the hypnotic process, in reality, it’s not like sleep at all. During a hypnotherapy session the subject (you) remains completely awake and aware of everything that is going on. Most people do become profoundly relaxed, and when the session is over most people report feeling even more rested than if they had fallen asleep, but you remain conscious the entire time. While some people do slip into a comfortable sleep as a result of the process (it’s very relaxing), sleeping will not bring about the changes that the therapy is designed to instill. It’s okay to fall asleep – sleep is very healthy for the mind and you shouldn’t fight it – but to reap the benefits of your hypnotherapy you are advised to schedule another session with yourself to replay the therapy and remain conscious.
- Can I Get Stuck In Hypnosis?
No. Our hypnotherapists guide you to a relaxed state where your unconscious mind is primed to receive suggestions from our voices, and only our voices. If the audio program were to be interrupted, you would immediately realize it and would snap out of the hypnotic state. Likewise, if you failed to come out of the hypnotic state for any other reason, the most common response after simply “waking up” is to fall gently asleep for a short period of time and to wake up in your own time, feeling perfectly normal. It is not possible – despite the drama of movies – to become stuck in a hypnotic state.
- Is Hypnosis Dangerous?
Hypnosis is not in and of itself dangerous. The dangers with hypnosis come in the form of therapists that are inexperienced, or therapists that do not know how to deal with abreactions. This is why we place such an emphasis on the experience of our therapists and the solid, scientific foundation upon which our programs rest. In addition, our programs are designed to allow you to exit the hypnotic state at any moment. If at any time you start to feel uncomfortable, we’ve built in the flexibility to exit safely from any point in the program. You are in full control.
- Will I Remember What Happened?
While it’s possible that you may experience amnesia of the hypnotherapy session, it’s incredibly rare for individuals to forget the procedure upon waking. Most people remember in great detail exactly what occured, and when people do forget, it is most often only temporary. There is no harm or danger to hypnotic amnesia, and is typically a result of a patient’s own expectations. If you expect to forget, you likely will, but otherwise there’s no reason that you would lose the memory of your session. The good news is this – even if you do forget, your therapy will be no less effective. And don’t worry, hypnotic amnesia – if you are one of the rare ones to experience it – won’t effect any other life memories.
- Will I Do Anything Against My Will?
No. Hypnosis is a cooperative process, and you remain fully awake and aware the entire time. If you were ever to hear suggestions that you did not agree with, you would simply choose not to follow it. It’s as simple as that. You are in control.
- Do I Need Headphones For Your Audio Programs?
You will need some method to play and deliver our audio program. This can be in the form of a CD player and a stereo with speakers, or it can be your computer or MP3 player with a set of headphones. Any combination will do, as long as you have some way of listening. We do recommend headphones insofar as it will give you a greater sense of escape from the outside world. But if you have a relatively quiet place to relax, where you can listen undisturbed, then headphones are not necessary.
- Is This Subliminal Persuasion?
No. In fact, the “science” of subliminal persuasion has been disproven. There really is no such thing as subliminal persuasion despite the popular belief in it. This is just one of the many traps that The Center for Neuro-Hypnotic Science seeks to help you avoid. If anyone is trying to sell you self-help subliminal message audio programs, they are selling you a false product. We work hard to help you seperate the truth from the fiction, and to deliver only proven, solid, scientific results-oriented programs and therapies.
- Can Hypnosis Be Used for Past Life Regression?
While we hate to pass judgement on other people’s practices, our position is that there is no scientific evidence for the existence of past lives, and as such, we do not provide therapies to uncover them. Evidence has shown that past life regression is most often simply a manifestation of False Memory Syndrome. And like recovering old memories, it can be a subject fraught with controversy. We keep all of our programs safely in the realm of solid, supported, scientific practices. Our therapies are powerful, and they derive their power from the solid medical principles on which they are based.
- How Are Your Programs Different From Other Ones I See Online?
While there are many differences that we could dwell on, from the overall production quality to the professionalism with which our programs are created, we like to point out two of the most profound differences. The first is that our programs are a therapy, a full hypnotherapy session in the privacy of your own home. A therapy is much more than just a “hypnosis” session. We feel that with all other “hypnosis” programs, you are only receiving one piece of the puzzle. We provide all of the pieces, and we put them together for you. We start you at the very beginning of a fully therapy session, of which “hypnosis” is merely a part, and utilize all of the most progressive techniques available to medical science to help you get the most out of your program. The second key difference is this: We have taken the best of our in-office hypnotherapy programs and combined it with our cutting edge combinatorial induction techniques to create a program that is even more powerful than the most expensive in-office sessions. How? By creating a personal, transformative environment in the privacy of your own home. This is something that has never been possible before. The choices were few – you could have a personal, hands-on treatment in an office with a therapist, or you could have an impersonal “hypnosis session” at home with CDs. There are benefits to both, but until now, they’ve never been combined! Our network of hypnotherapists have spent years perfecting the induction techniques necessary to combine the two and the results are profound! Our programs are the only ones to provide these full therapies in your home, and we work hard to remain at the forefront of our evolving science.
